MedCo approves Docslot

From 1st January 2016 (this deadline has now been extended to 1st February 2016), ALL medical experts must be registered with and accredited by MedCo in order to provide the initial fixed cost medical report in a soft tissue injury claim. This requirement applies equally to experts who currently only work via MROs (referred to by MedCo as "Indirect Medical Experts"). Any experts who does not achieve accreditation by the deadline will be suspended from MedCo until they have successfully completed the training and been accredited. A suspended expert cannot be used by a MRO.

DocSlot's training and accreditation programme has been authorised by MedCo. Our training will be provided in online modules. At the end of the training, DocSlot will allow experts to take an online test at their convenience. Successful candidates will then be sent a certificate and DocSlot will update MedCo so that the expert can be accredited. DocSlot will be providing training and certification from October 2015.

It is envisaged that accreditation will last for 3 years.

Experts should be aware that MedCo's minimum requirements must be fulfilled before accreditation can be awarded (additional criteria may also apply in relation to a licence to practice and we will update this information as soon as it has been finalised):

  1. Expert must be registered with MedCo (which requires experts to have an ICO number)
  2. Expert must hold relevant qualifications and ideally doctors should hold a licence to practice. Any doctor not holding a valid licence will be required provide a referee who must hold a licence to practice (details of this will be confirmed shortly).
  3. Expert must be a registered member of an appropriate professional body (such as the GMC or HCPC)
  4. Sign the MedCo user agreement and declaration of financial links

Training Modules

The MedCo syllabus is divided into 5 parts:

1. Professional Obligations
2. Medical History
3. Clinical Examination
4. Model Medico Legal Examination and Report
5. Legal Content

Docslot's Medco Accreditation and Training programme covers this syllabus in 8 stand-alone online modules of 1 to 1.5 hours. MedCo have asked that all modules must not be released at this stage. The total video content of all 8 modules is approximately 10 hours. Our modules have been written by leading experts in the fields of medicine, physiotherapy and law, many with over 20 years experience in dealing with soft tissue injury. This ensures we always provide you with up to date and high quality material. The training is fully contained within the online slides and videos but additional reference material can also be downloaded. Our interesting course content, delivered in a structured way makes the training easy to follow and largely painless!
